Chargers season ends with loss to Flagler at Regional tournament |

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— Strong doubles play helped propel the fourth-seeded Flagler College Saints past the No. 5 UAH Chargers 5-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Regional I tennis tournament on Thursday morning.
Flagler (10-7) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with wins in each of the doubles matches. The Saints’ number two team of Gino Ramirez and Kyle Maloof scored first, beating Andre Ipince
and Davyd Fowler
8-4. At number one, David Cotrone and Harry Snoxell beat Andres Buse
and Daniel Canellas 8-4.
Mason Addison and Eli Meyer made it a sweep by by outlasting Kyle Smith and Andrew Alfonso
9-7.
“Our doubles are our bread and butter” said Flagler assistant head coach Shuffel Hepburn. “We got a great start with our doubles, and played well the rest of the way through.”
In singles competition, the Saints scored a quick victory at the number two spot as Ramirez beat Ipinc 6-1, 6-2.
The Chargers (9-6) fought to stay in the match as Fowler took a 6-4 first-set victory over Maloof at number four; and Michael Garcia
stopped Meyer at number six 7-6 (4) in the first set.
Ultimately their efforts proved fruitless though, as Cotrone won the final point for the Saints by beating Buse 6-3, 6-4 at number one singles.
“We gave away the doubles,” said Charger head coach Julie Woltjen. “We came out too tight, and didn’t play well. We worked hard to come back in singles, but didn’t leave ourselves any room.”

Lady Chargers fall in final match of the season |

Montevallo - The Lady Chargers lost their final match of the the season, falling to the University of Montevallo 7-2. With the loss the Lady Chargers ended the season with a record of 2-10 in the 0-5 in the Gulf South Conference.
UAH No. 2 Mar Piernavieja
(Madrid, Spain) and No. Amanda Sipple (Madison) won their singles matches. Piernavieja defeated Kristi Kelly 6-1, 6-3 and after losing the first set 2-6, Sipple beat Emily Blackwood 6-4 and 11-9 to take the win.
