PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Surrendering three third-period goals, the Alabama-Huntsville (5-13-1, 1-6-1 CHA) hockey team dropped a 4-2 College Hockey America decision at Robert Morris (7-12-3, 3-4-2 CHA) on Saturday night in Pittsburgh, Pa.
After a scoreless first period, the Colonials opened the scoring at 4:08 of the second when Chris Kushneriuk netted his 11th marker of the season. The 1-0 lead held for RMU until just before the close of the period when Charger freshman winger Keenan Desmet (Strathmore, Alberta) scored his third goal in as many games at 19:09 to draw the game even just before the close of the frame. Junior forward Neil Ruffini (Roswell, Ga.) and freshman center Justin Cseter (Menomonie, Wisc.) assisted on the goal.
The third period saw the Colonials regain the lead right off the bat in the third period as Nathan Longpre gave RMU a 2-1 advantage only 20 seconds into the stanza. RMU's Andrew Blazek then made it a 3-1 lead at 7:49 with his first of the season. Ron Cramer pushed the lead to 4-1 at 17:09 of the third to round out RMU's scoring.
UAH kept pushing however and scored a tally in the closing moment as junior Chris Faribanks (Millford, Mich.) lit the lamp with 18 seconds remaining with assists from Ruffini and junior winger Vince Bruni (Toronto, Ontario)
Junior netminder Cameron Talbot took the loss in net with a 33-save performance while Brooks Ostergard earned the sweep of UAH with an 18-save night.
The Chargers are idle next week before finally returning home to the Von Braun Center on Jan. 29-30 hosting CHA foe Niagara.
