Plagued by the turnover bug, the Lady Chargers couldn't stay with Valdosta State, suffering a 76-62 loss on Saturday night at Spragins Hall. The Lady Chargers turned the ball over 26 times as they fell to 3-18 and 0-7 with their 10th straight loss. Meanwhile, VSU remained atop the Gulf South Conference East Division at 8-0 and 17-7 overall.
Despite the loss, guard Marissa Carter
scored 21 points and grabbed five rebounds. Senior Amber Whitt
added 10 points.
Michelle Thompson led VSU with 16 points. Sczeny Hartry and Brittany Daniels each finished with 13 points for the Lady Blazers. Daniels also had 10 rebounds. Ali Jones rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.
The Lady Chargers outshot VSU in the first half, hitting 42% (9-for-21), while the Lady Blazers made 14-of-35 (40%). However, UAH trailed 38-26 at halftime.
In the second half, UAH rallied to close within four. A freethrow by Carter made it 48-44 with 12:31 left in the game. But, the Lady Blazers answered with a 13-4 run to put the game out of reach. VSU led by as much as 17 (70-53) before settling for the final margin of victory.
The Lady Chargers will play their final home game of the season on Monday night against West Georgia. The game was originally scheduled for Feb. 18, but was rescheduled as a result of the tragic events that took place on the UAH campus.
