BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Playing at the legendary Rickwood Field in Birmingham, the Alabama-Huntsville (15-6) baseball team cruised to a 14-3 win over homestanding Miles on Wednesday afternoon.

The Chargers got the offense rolling in the top of the second loading the bases right out of the gate.  Senior designated hitter Josh Bolan (Decatur) ledoff the frame by getting beaned before senior catcher Christopher Parkman (Raleigh, Miss.) and sophomore shortstop Corey Trapp (Russellville) each singled to put a Charger on each base.  Senior right fielder Bradley Ray (Birmingham) stepped up and laced a double bringing Bolan and Parkman home to score and giving UAH a 2-0 advantage.  Junior leftfielder Corey Whittle (Cullman) then made it a 4-0 contest with another double bringing Trapp and Ray across the dish.

Bolan ledoff the third reaching on error before Trapp earned a one-out walk to give UAH two aboard for Ray, who delivered his second extra-bases hit in as many innings with a triple scoring both Bolan and Trapp.  Ray then came home to make it 7-0 on a sacrifice fly from Whittle.

Miles mangaged to scrape out a run in the fourth but UAH answered back with a two-out rally as senior centerfielder Jeremy Dorrence (Decatur) was plunked, swiped second base and scored on a single by Bolan making it a 8-1 game.

The Golden Bears responded with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the frame but UAH answered right back plating five runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  Senior second baseman Nick Huckaby (Jamestown, Ky.) ledoff the frame with a single and then scored on a Dorrence double.  A pair of wild pitches brought Dorrence home to score before the Chargers picked up the rest of the five runs on RBI singles by Whittle, junior third baseman Jordan Parker (Hartselle), and senior Ryan McCrory (Mobile).

Ray rounded out the scoring in the seventh with his third extra-base hit of the afternoon with a double scoring Parkman.

Sophomore Ryan Griffin (Athens) made the start on the hill going four innings allowing one earned runs on two hits while striking out five to earn the win.  Seniors Corbin Holland (Gadsden), Taylor Scott (Franklin, Tenn.), Jermaine Barksdale (Carlsbad, N.M.) and juniors Byne Gooden (Millbrook) and Jake Tubbs (Childersburg) worked in relief.

The Chargers return to Gulf South Conference play this weekend with a trip to Valdosta State on Saturday and Sunday.
