Oxford, Miss. - Jeniffer Cherono broke the school record in the 3000m Steeplechase
at the Ole Miss Invitational in a time of 11:01.20. That time broke the
long standing record of 11:06.82 set in 2003 by Amy Phillips, who was a three time national qualifier in the steeplechase. Cherono's time currently ranks her 10th on the national performance
list.
Jaion Rayford had a breakthrough race in the 400m, as he set a new
school record with a time of 48.81. The previous record was set by
Corderyl Sunday last year in 48.92.
Alex Lopez-Rogina also had a big day in the 400m, as she ran a big
personal best time of 57.85 Parris Heilman ran a personal best time in
the 800m with a time of 1:57.58. Haley Hancock ran her best time in the
1500m by over 10 seconds to finish in 5:02.15. Allyson Pierce also
improved her time in the 1500m with a 5:10.54. Daniel Saint ran his
best time in the 400m Hurdles as he finished in a time of 59.13.
At Jacksonville - Rayford had a big day for the Chargers at the Jacksonville
State Invite as he set a huge personal best time in the 100m with
a winning time of 10.88. Rayford backed that up with another personal
best in the 200m, placing third in 21.82.
Along with Rayford, the Chargers had several that placed high in
their events. Luke Beck placed first in the Pole Vault with a clearance
of 15'5". Josh Coots placed second in the Discus with a throw of
132'3". Will Rodgers and Josh Moshier were second and third in the 5000m,
with times of 15:33.85 and 15:35.39 respectively. Dante Dorsey placed third in the 3000m Steeplechase, finishing in a time of 10:28.82. Also
placing third, was Aaron Lee in the 110m Hurdles in 15.73.
For the Lady Chargers, Nadia Araiinejad threw her personal best in
the Javelin with a mark of 107'10". Cherono and Rebecca Hilt both ran their best in the 800 with times of 2:21.56 and 2:24.60,
respectively, whihle Allyson Pierce ran a personal best time in the 5000m with
a 19:18.24.
