HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Former Alabama-Huntsville Chargers Jared Ross and Scott Munroe took the ice over the weekend for the Philadelphia Flyers in preseason action against the Carolina Hurricanes marking the first time that a Charger has seen NHL action.
Seeing action in both Saturday and Sunday's tilts with the 'Canes, Ross fired two shots-on-goal in the game in Philly on Saturday and capped off the weekend with one shot-on-net along with drawing two penalties in Sunday's contest. Munroe was perfect in net for the Flyers in Sunday's contest as the netminder turned away 16 Carolina shots working the final 27:16 as Philadelphia fell 1-0.
"Today was great," said Munroe after playing in his first NHL game to the Philadelphia Inqurier. "I thought it was pretty cool that I was able to play with Jared today."
Ross and Munroe played together for three seasons for the Chargers during the 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. Both players spent the 2007-08 season as teammates with the Philadelphia Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the Flyers.
The 2008-09 Chargers take the ice on Oct. 10-11 at No. 5 Colorado College before returning home on Oct. 24th hosting Tennessee in an exhibition contest renewing the rivalry between the two squads that dates back to the very first UAH game at the Von Braun Center.
