Chargers Show Strong in 12-1 Exhibition Victory

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team wasted no time and ran away with a convincing 12-1 victory on Saturday night against the Frozen Tide of Alabama at the Von Braun Center.

The scoring came early and often in the Chargers first action of the 2012-13 season, scoring just 30 seconds into the first period.
Sebastian Geoffrion found the back of the net , thanks to some fancy puck-work from Curtis deBruyn and Justin Cseter, who tallied the assists on the goal.

Sophomore Kyle Lysaght, the team's leading scorer from a year ago, started his scoring barrage just under three minutes into the game. Lysaght added another one almost four minutes later to push the UAH lead out to 3-0 early.

After Curtis deBruyn  and a Brice Geoffrion scored to make the score 5-0, Lysaght added two more to his total. Both assisted from Cseter, Lysaght had four goals just four minutes into the second period.

After Chad Brears scored midway through the second period to make the score 8-0 in favor of the home team, Lysaght recorded his fifth goal of the game less than a minute later.

Alex Allan and Steven Koshey would get in the scoring action later, while Chad Brears added his second goal of the game midway through the third period which would wrap up the scoring action.

UAH outshot the Frozen Tide 59-5 in dominating in fashion and limiting in threat the visitors would attempt to impose.

The Three Stars came as no surprise to anyone, with Kyle Lysaght, Justin Cseter and Curtis deBruyn taking the crown.

Lysaght finished with five goals scored, deBruyn added a goal with three assists while Cseter added four assists.

In goal for UAH to start was Gregg Gruehl playing the first two periods recording just three saves and allowing the lone Alabama goal, really never being threatened by the Frozen Tide. CJ Groh played the third period picking up a save to seal the deal for UAH.

While UAH may have put up school-record type numbers, the game goes down as an exhibition and a good solid start to the season for the Chargers.

UAH hits the ice again tomorrow to take on Alabama for another exhibition matchup. The puck drops at 3:00 p.m.
