BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The first Gulf South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week was announced on Monday, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville's
Jordan Smith captured the award after a pair of strong performances in two key in-region games.
A member of the Preseason All-GSC Team, Smith totaled 37 points and 14 rebounds as she was strong at both ends of the floor. In the team's victory over Benedict, she scored 20 and grabbed eight boards while adding four steals, and against Tuskegee she notched 17 points and six rebounds.
With the 37 points, the junior from Hoover, Ala., sits just 34 points away from becoming the sixth player in program history to record 1,000 points in a career.
Looking to continue the team's strong start, Smith and her teammates will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Montevallo for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
