Chargers Fall In NIT Midwest Regional Final

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team saw Kansas State run away with an 87-26 victory on Tuesday night in the final of the NIT Season Tip-Off Midwest Regional, bringing to an end the chance for the Chargers to continue their historic run through the tournament.

The Wildcats will advance to the next round at Madison Square Garden in New York, and UAH will move on next week to a site yet to be determined for its final two games of the prestigious tournament as all participating teams are guaranteed four contests.

The momentous two-day period for the Chargers generated unprecedented interest in the program with social media buzzing during the 24 hours after UAH defeated Sun Belt Conference preseason favorite North Texas in the opening round. Additionally, the official internet home of the Blue and White set a daily record for page views with nearly 22,500 – more than double the previous best that was set on the first day of the NCAA Division II South Regional this past March.

The Chargers trailed the entire time Tuesday night, facing a tremendously tough Kansas State defense that held the visitors to a shooting percentage of just 16.4 percent and a mark of 9.1 percent from beyond the arc.

The Wildcats, however, connected on 34 of their 61 tries from the floor and nailed nine 3-pointers en route to the victory.

Before travelling to the next site in the NIT, the Chargers will look to bounce back from Tuesday's loss when they host Trevecca Nazarene at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
