MADISON, Wis. – Looking to build on some recent success, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team will take on the University of Wisconsin this week for a pair of games at the Kohl Center on Thursday and Friday with the puck slated to drop for both games at 7 p.m.
On Friday,
Sebastian Geoffrion and
Brice Geoffrion's older brother, Blake, who played his college hockey at Wisconsin, will serve as honorary captain and will drop the puck. The 2010 Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner is currently recovering from an injury sustained Nov. 9, while playing for the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs.
UAH (3-12-1) completed a two-game sweep over Finlandia this past weekend at the Von Braun Center, and now will look to build momentum against the Badgers (2-7-5) of the WCHA who played Michigan Tech to two ties last weekend at home.
Jeff Vanderlugt played the best series of his UAH career this past weekend, scoring three goals, adding an assist, and he was also responsible for both game-winners in a sweep over Finlandia. Vanderlugt now leads the team in points with eight and also holds a team-best plus-minus. The sophomore has played in all 16 games and has been the spark to this team's recent success.
The all-time series between the two programs has been dominated by this weekend's hosts as Wisconsin has won all six meetings, and the Badgers picked up a pair of wins in the 2010-11 season when the two teams met last.
With nine goals and a pair of assists, Michael Mersch is leading Wisconsin offensively on the season with 11 points.
