HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Daniel Finn and the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's tennis is pleased to announce the exceptional recruiting class of 2013-14, with three top-10 players signed and bound for Huntsville.
UAH received commitments from Ian Wisener, Harrison Stone and Brodie Holmes. The three players are all ranked in the top ten of the state of Alabama according to Tennis Recruiting Network.
“I am very excited about this signing class, they are all great junior players and have continuously been ranked and done very well in the south region,” said Finn.
Here is a quick glance at the talent that will be wearing the Charger uniform come the spring of 2014:
Ian Wisener (Horton, Ala.) Ranked No. 8 in Alabama
- Started all five years on varsity
- Played last three seasons at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles
- Led team to three-straight Marshall County titles
- Five straight trips to Alabama Class 4A State Tournament
- Voted to Huntsville Times Elite Team and All-Marshall County Team
- Ranked No. 1 academically in class and member of National Honor Society
“Ian has such a natural skill set, where the ball seems to come right to him off his serves, volleys and hands at the net,” said Finn.
Brodie Holmes (Killen, Ala.) Ranked No. 6 in Alabama
- Began playing competitively at age 12
- 2012 North Alabama 6A High School Sectional Champion in singles and doubles
- 2012 Times Daily “Northwest Alabama Player of the Year”
- Played last three seasons at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles
- Played No. 1 singles in 8th grade
- Plans on studying Biology or Chemistry while at UAH
“Brodie's competiveness and willingness to work above and beyond is really going to take his skills to the next level and quickly transform him into a solid college player,” said Finn.
Harrison Stone (Huntsville, Ala.) Ranked No. 4 in Alabama
- Won Alabama State Qualifier
- Competed twice in Southern Cup for Team Alabama
- Won numerous southern level tournaments
- Been ranked in top 100 of South for most of his tennis career
“Harrison has a solid stroke and his great junior career and experience will definitely help him moving into match play. He will be successful at the collegiate level.” said Finn.
All three players will bring talent and experience to a program that is moving in the right direction.
“These kids really have me excited about having the opportunity to work with them and refine their already-strong skill set and take them to the next level. Being able to sign these three young men to UAH is a great blessing and they together will be able to take this program to new heights,” said Finn.
