Chargers Score Four Goals in Second to Win 4-1

BOX SCORE
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
Following a five-goal performance last night, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team put up four goals in the second period on Saturday afternoon, defeating Finlandia 4-1 at the Von Braun Center.

UAH (3-12-1) saw Jeff Vanderlugt put home three goals and also add an assist in the three-goal victory over the Lions (3-8). Vanderlugt earned No. 1 Three Star of the Game for his two goals and one assist performance.

Vanderlugt scored the first two goals of the game, giving UAH a 2-0 lead just over eight minutes into the second period. The two teams played a scoreless first period, but Vanderlugt opened up the second with his fourth and now team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Kyle Lysaght, who finished with two assists in the game, assisted on the first Vanderlugt goal and added his second on Frank Misuraca's goal that put the Chargers up 4-1. Misuraca put the cap on a second period that saw the lamp lit a total of five times.
Michael Webley added his second goal of the season at 8:18 in the second period, which put UAH up 3-0. After allowing Finlandia to get on the board, Misuraca finished off the Lions.

The Chargers outshot the visiting Lions by a final of 41-19. Gregg Gruehl picked up the win in goal playing 29:45 and racking up six saves. CJ Groh came in and shut down Finlandia for the final 30:15, picking up 12 saves of his own and allowing the lone Finlandia goal.

It was a total team effort by the Chargers, as each line played outstanding in the third victory of the season. Not showing up in the box score was Graeme Strukoff and Sebastian Geoffrion, who played some of their best hockey of the season.

Justin Cseter added his third assist of the season, while Chad Brears picked up his first collegiate point recording an assist on UAH's second goal. Stephen Hickey and Alex Allan also added assists for the Chargers in the game.

UAH is now 3-4-1 in their last eight games, playing some of their best hockey, if not the best, of the season.

The Chargers will look to carry momentum over next week when they travel to Madison, Wis., to take on the Wisconsin Badgers. The two-game set is set for a 7 p.m. start on both Thursday and Friday at the Kohl Center.
