Finn Announces Addition To Tennis Staff

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville tennis program and Head Coach Daniel Finn have announced the addition of Roscoe Moonieyan to the coaching staff for the upcoming 2012-13 academic year.

Moonieyan previously worked with Finn at Union College in Kentucky from Aug. 2009 to May 2011.

“I am very happy to have Roscoe join my staff again,” said Finn. “Roscoe was an integral part of the success we had at Union, and I know he will be a valuable asset here as well.”

At Union, the coaching duo enjoyed immense success, and Moonieyan was named the 2011 NAIA Men's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year for the East Region after helping guide the men's squad to the second winningest season in program history. With three men's players ranked in the national rankings, the team won a pair of conference titles and reached the Round of 16 in the national tournament.

One of the reasons I wanted to bring Roscoe here is that he understands me and the way I like to do things,” Finn continued. “A lot like me, Roscoe is a young coach and does a really good job with relating to our players, and he does a great job of getting the best out of student-athletes.”

He helped coach the 2011 ITA Arthur Ashe Award winner on the men's side while he one of his women's players was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Since his time at Union, Moonieyan founded and has served as the head coach at the Tenacity Tennis Academy in East London, South Africa.
