JOPLIN, Mo. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's cross country team finished strong in the 2012 NCAA Pre-Nationals race, coming in eighth place out of 16 teams.
In a good opportunity to show where UAH runners stand this season, the Chargers lived up to the billing with a strong top ten finish in the 8K race. UAH finished sixth in Division II.
Division-I member Tulsa won the race with the hosts Missouri Southern taking second.
The Chargers finished with 186 points, one shy of Pittsburg State who finished with 185. UAH runners finished with an average time of 26:30.04.
Leading the way for UAH was defending GSC Player of the Week
Blaise Binns. Binns finished in 15th place overall, the highest of any UAH runner. The reigning Conference Freshman of the Year ran a 25:44.96, 11 seconds better than his first-place finish from last weekend.
Jose Ortega also showed very well in the loaded-field event, finishing in 20th place overall with a time of 25:54.10.
Senior
Dante Dorsey came in 44th place, running a 26:40.13.
Finishing close together as a group for the Chargers were Da
Costa Smith,
Joey Bemowski and
Taylor Buzzard. All three finished within three seconds of one another.
The Chargers have a weekend off before traveling to Louisville, Kentucky, to run in the Greater Louisville Classic on September 29.
