Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team finished strong at their annual Country Inn & Suites Tournament, defeating Paine College in straight sets, 3-0.
It was the Lady Chargers (5-3) only match of the day, but they made the most of it by cruising past the visiting Lions (0-5).
UAH didn't have much difficulty the entire match, as they held Paine to just eight points, 11 points and 10 points in their three sets, respectively.
Finishing with a dominating .560 successful attack percentage, the Lady Chargers were not challenged much at all in the first set, as they surged out to an 11-1 lead and never looked back.
Stacey Sargent and
Alexis Deal each serviced four straight points in the rout of Paine in the second set (25-11).
Kelsey Williams sealed the deal with five straight service points, with help from
Erin Keeney and
Angela Thurmond who smashed a couple.
UAH finished off Paine with an easy 25-10 win the third and final set.
Again leading the UAH attack was
Angela Thurmond, who tallied a game-high 11 kills and three blocks. Thurmond now has 96 kills to lead all players this season.
Freshman
Olivia Bauman had a season-high six kills, while the senior Williams had six as well.
Kelly Wilson added 21 more assists to her total for the season, as the senior now sits with a team-high 159.
Ashton Baker recorded seven assists, moving her mark to 137 so far this year.
Playing strong defensively again for UAH was freshman
Kennedie Lariscy, who added four more digs, pushing her season total up to 78.
All 12 players chipped in the winning effort, as
Kirsten Rousseau,
Kristin Wyatt, Jordan Lambert and
Kendall Knisley also played key roles in the UAH win.
The Lady Chargers will now hit the road for their next three games. UAH will play cross-town rival Alabama A&M on Tuesday. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
