WALESKA, Ga. – Bouncing back from its setback earlier in the week, the University of Alabama in Huntsville women's tennis team traveled to Reinhardt and picked up a 7-2 victory. The Lady Chargers move to 4-1 on the season.
“I am really proud of the effort the ladies have been giving,” said Head Coach Daniel Finn. “Because of the effort, the results are becoming the rewards.”
UAH jumped out to a 2-0 lead as
Lina Carvajal and
Maria Lawton claimed the point at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 win, while
Jessica Grouppierre teamed up with Kasi McDonaldo for an 8-2 win at the third position. Reinhardt captured the point at No. 2 to cut it to 2-1 going into singles play.
Carvajal's match was the first to end in singles as she took home the point at No. 2 by winning 6-4, 6-0, and
Katie Bryant gave the Lady Chargers a 4-1 advantage in the match when she won 6-4, 6-4 at the fourth position.
Sealing the match for UAH, Grouppierre won easily 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot.
Also winning matches in singles play were Alejandro Pacheco at the No. 5 as she won 7-6, 6-2 and McDonald at the sixth position as she won 6-3, 6-1.
UAH will continue play on the road on Tuesday when the Lady Chargers travel to Montevallo for a 2:30 p.m. tilt.
