HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's tennis team easily dispatched of visiting Huntingdon on Sunday, winning 8-1 to move to 9-6 on the season.
“I am really proud of the way our guys competed and took it to Huntingdon today,” said Head Coach Daniel Finn after the victory. “It really puts a good taste back in our mouths after yesterday's tough match. We now will get some time to recover this week before we get back into the swing of things.”
The team started off strong as
Jose Soto and
Nestor Perez won 8-3 at the No. 1 doubles while the No. 3 duo of
Christopher Kano and
Guillermo Reyes also won by an 8-3 score. The No. 2 pairing for UAH fell 8-6, but it was only the second time that
Fredrik Graaner and
Raphael Oliveira had played together this season.
Holding the 2-1 lead, the Chargers went ahead 4-1 when Reyes won 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth position, and Oliveira captured a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
The match was sealed when Perez won 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth spot.
Helping the team win all six singles points, No. 1 Soto was a 6-2, 6-4 winner; Graaner won by scores of 6-3, 6-3 at the second position; and Kano won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4.
The team will return to action on Saturday, March 23, when it travels to Shorter.
