Chargers Open NCAA Tournament with Stillman

LIVE STATS
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. –
For the first time since 2010, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's tennis team will play in an NCAA tournament match as it will take on Stillman in the opening round of the NCAA South Region 1 bracket. The match between the ninth-seeded Chargers (14-11) and the Tigers (26-2) is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. CDT on Saturday.

UAH is making its sixth appearance in the national tournament, and the team will be looking for the program's first-ever win in the event. The Blue and White's best effort in the tourney was its last when it fell 5-4 to fellow Gulf South Conference member West Alabama in 2010.

The Chargers captured the final at-large position in the region this year after completing a season that saw the team improve its win total by nine matches from last year – including a pair of victories over nationally-ranked teams.

One of those wins over ranked opponent came last weekend when the team beat No. 43 Delta State 5-4 in a match that most consider the one that propelled the Chargers into the national tournament.

Stillman tore through the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a perfect 11-0 mark, and the team only lost twice overall on the season – in its first match of the year at Division I member Alabama State and two matches later to West Alabama. Since then, the Tigers have reeled off 25 straight victories.

The winner of the match will face top-seed Barry on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
