HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After recording the program's first-ever win at the NCAA tournament en route to posting a 15-12 record on the season, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's tennis team appeared in the latest edition of the ITA College Tennis Rankings, placing 41st in the country.
During the season, the Chargers picked up a pair of wins over then-nationally ranked opponents – a 9-0 win over No. 49 Nebraska Kearney and a 5-4 victory over No. 43 Delta State at the Gulf South Conference tournament.
The GSC featured several institutions in the poll in addition to the Chargers as West Florida checked in at No. 3 while West Alabama and Valdosta State were 27th and 28th, respectively. Delta State was 47th to give the GSC five schools total in the poll.
The NCAA South Region is also strongly represented with Barry leading the way at No. 1, while three other schools were ranked in the top 10: No. 4 Lynn, No. 7 Rollins, and No. 10 Saint Leo. Florida Southern was ranked 30th, and Florida Tech was No. 46.
The Chargers will look to build upon the success generated by this year's squad into the offseason and into the fall as Head Coach Daniel Finn compliments the already strong foundation with new recruits who should only be able to increase the forward trajectory of the program.
