Moonieyan Named Region's Top Assistant

COMPLETE LIST OF ITA AWARD WINNERS
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2013 regional award winners, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville's Roscoe Moonieyan was selected as the South Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year by the organization.

“This has been such a great year and having the type of turnaround and record-breaking season we experienced doesn't happen without coaching staff members like Roscoe,” said Head Coach Daniel Finn. “None of the success we had this year would have been possible without Roscoe and his tireless effort.”

With Moonieyan's assistance, the Chargers compiled a 15-12 mark, reached the Gulf South Conference tournament semifinals, and earned the program's first-ever win at the NCAA tournament, while under his direction, Jose Soto landed on the All-GSC team.

“The great thing about Roscoe is that while he is an assistant coach by title, he is in my mind every bit the quality of a head coach,” Finn added. “There is not a better assistant coach in the country in my eyes, and I am very proud of Roscoe as he really deserves this award.”

This is the second time that Moonieyan has been named as a region's top assistant as he also won the award while serving as an assistant at Union College in Barbourville, Ky. He is in first season in Huntsville as he joined the staff shortly after Finn was hired to take over the tennis programs last summer.

Daniel Rockhill from Concordia College (N.Y.) was selected as the National Assistant Coach of the Year.
