Hockey Adds Eight for 2014-15 Campaign

HUNTSVILLE | Head coach Mike Corbett and the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey program announced the addition of eight players with a wealth of experience and skill to the roster for the upcoming 2014-15 campaign.

Corbett is entering his second season at the helm of UAH hockey, following his introductory season that featured one of the youngest rosters in the nation.

Below are the additions for the upcoming season:

Max McHugh (5-10, 170, F):  This Washington state native spent the 2013-14 season playing for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he contributed 21 goals and 13 assists for 34 points in 60 games played.  McHugh is a smooth skating, hard-nosed athlete who can play all three forward positions.  Look for McHugh to compete for time in all situations and to continue his growth as an impact player with the Chargers this season.

Corbett:  "Max is a player that we can continue to build this program with, as he is versatile and has scored at every level.  We will be counting on him immediately as a freshman."

Brennan Saulnier (6-0, 170, F):  This East Coast Canadian who hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia is an in-your-face speedster who honed his craft as a 20-year-old with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).  Saulnier put up 16 goals and 33 assists for 49 points in 60 games played, and after an early season adjustment period, he really came into his own.  Look for "Sans" to continue his upward trajectory and to compete for minutes in all situations.

Corbett: "Brennan is a player that will bring a tremendous amount of speed to our line up.  He is a winner at every level and he will be exciting player to watch for Charger fans!"

Josh Kestner (6-0, 170, F):  The hometown boy has come home to The Hockey Capital of The South and will don the Charger jersey after posting an impressive 41 goals for the Sarnia Legionnaires of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL).  The Huntsville native impressed with his speed and shooting ability, and will look to make a huge jump to Division I hockey.  Look for Kestner to push his classmates for offensive time in all situations and continue his growth with the Chargers.

Corbett: "Huntsville now has a reason to cheer for a true "hometown" player.  Josh is a proven goal scorer in junior and we will need him to continue that at UAH.  He will be counted on to improve our special teams this season."

Brandon Salerno (5-8, 170, F):  Salerno comes to the Chargers from the Waterloo Blackhawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL) where he was a member of their Anderson Cup Championship team in 2013-14. This smaller forward brings speed, finesse, and an impressive work ethic to the Charger line up for the 2014-15 season.  Though he will be the youngest member of the team, look for Salerno to compete for minutes in all situations this season.

Corbett:  "Brandon is a player that creates offensive chances through his work ethic.  He will be a tremendous penalty killer for us and will only improve as the season moves on."

Richard Buri (6-5, 214, D):  Richard hails from Nitra, Slovakia and comes to the University of Alabama in Huntsville from the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League (NAHL).  The agile 6'5" defenseman occupies a lot of space in front of the net and makes it very hard for opponents to enter the scoring area.  In 2013-14 Buri put up four goals and seven assists for 11 points in 46 contest for the Wilderness, and also competed in three international games for his native Slovakia.  Look for Buri to add size and competiveness to the Charger defensive corps this season.

Corbett: "Richard is a big physical defenseman that shoots the puck very well.  He will give us physical presence and offense over the course of his career."

Cody Champagne (5-11, 185, D): A product of the Topeka Roadrunners of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), Champagne brings solid speed to the Charger defense for the 2014-15 season.  Along with his special-teams' attributes, Champagne is a solid puck moving defenseman who has the ability to retrieve pucks in the defensive zone and make smooth transitions to offense.   Cody contributed seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points in 58 contests for the Roadrunners and will compete for time in all situations this season.

Corbett: "Cody is a slick skating defenseman that will immediately help our power play.  He is offensive minded and will be a threat on the rush and from the blue line."

Brandon Parker (5-10, 175, D):  A Minnesota native, Parker was a member of the Brookings Blizzard of North American Hockey league (NAHL) in 2013-14 where he put up 10 goals and 24 assists for 34 points in 59 games.  The smooth skating defenseman has the ability to deliver a solid first pass and create offense with his creativity.  Parker is an aggressive competitor and will raise the bar for the Chargers. Look for this composed defenseman to compete for minutes in all situations.

Corbett: "Brandon is a heady puck moving defenseman that will help us immensely in the WCHA.  He can play in all situations and will be counted on to bolster our power plays and penalty kills."

Jordan Uhelski (6-1, 185, G): In 2013-14 Uhelski appeared in 26 contests for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he posted a 3.70 goal average against and a 90.0 save percentage.  After two solid seasons in the USHL, this product of Burton, Michigan brings a wealth of experience to the Charger Crease.  Look for Uhelski to push the sophomore tandem of Guierreo and Larose for playing time this season and solidify the goaltending position for the 2014-15 season.

Corbett:  "Jordan is an extremely hard worker that will push our current tandem of goalies.  His success in the past and his competitiveness will put him in position for playing time immediately."
