HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey program and head coach
Mike Corbett announced the 2015-16 regular season schedule on Monday afternoon, which includes nine home series at the Von Braun Center and three opponents that participated in the 2015 NCAA Hockey Tournament.
Â
UAH will drop the puck at home to open the 2015-16 campaign for the first time since 2012-13, as Hockey East member Connecticut visits the Rocket City on Oct. 9-10 for the first series of the season. The Chargers have a history of success against the Huskies on their home ice, boasting a 6-2 record against UConn at the VBC.
Â
After one week away from competition, the Blue and White will return to the Von Braun Center to open the Western Collegiate Hockey Association schedule with a visit from Alaska Anchorage (Oct. 23-24). UAH topped UAA in both games last season in Huntsville to start the 2015 calendar year.
Â
UAH then travels to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan for the first road series of the year at Lake Superior State (Oct. 30-31), before coming back to the VBC to take on 2015 NCAA Hockey Tournament participant Michigan Tech (Nov. 6-7).
Â
The next trip for the Chargers is the closest regional matchup in Bowling Green (Nov. 20-21), then UAH will host a four-game homestand against Bemidji State (Nov. 27-28), in a post-Thanksgiving contest, and Northern Michigan (Dec. 4-5).
Â
A road series at Broadmoor Trophy winner and 2015 NCAA Tournament qualifier Minnesota State (Dec. 11-12) wraps up the road slate for 2015, with the Chargers heading home to take on NCHC affiliate Colorado College (Dec. 18-19) before heading into the break.
Â
The Chargers will ring in the New Year with a non-conference matchup against 2015 Frozen Four participant North Dakota (Jan. 1-2), which will be the first matchup between the two programs since UAH made a trip to Grand Forks in the 1989-90 season.
Â
The first home series of 2016 will be against Alaska Fairbanks (Jan. 8-9), followed by consecutive road series at Ferris State (Jan. 15-16) and Alaska Anchorage (Jan. 29-30).
Â
UAH will then be visited by Minnesota State (Feb. 12-13) for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign, before heading out for the final road trip of the regular season with stops at Northern Michigan (Feb. 19-20) and rival Bemidji State (Feb. 26-27).
Â
The final series of the regular season will be at the VBC against Bowling Green (March 4-5). The WCHA Playoffs are scheduled for March 11-13 at campus sites, while the WCHA Final Five is slated for March 18-19 in Grand Rapids, Michigan at Van Andel Arena.
