HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The 2017 Division II Conference Commissioners Association Softball All-South Region Teams were announced on Monday, headlined by Player of the Year Kaitlyn Bannister and Pitcher of the Year Tyler Harrison who both hail from The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
 
Bannister was also named the region's top third baseman, while Harrison was picked as the top at the utility/pitcher position.
 
Voting was conducted by the region's sports information directors.
 
Bannister finished the year with a single-season UAH record .482 batting average while driving in 73 runs as she totaled 92 hits, 18 doubles, and 21 home runs. The senior slugged at a .906 clip and thanks to 30 walks, she also featured an on-base percentage of .545.
 
Harrison concluded her senior season with a 21-8 record in the circle to go along with a 1.86 ERA. In 184.2 innings pitched, she walked just 23 while striking out 177, and the opposition hit just .225 off of her. Additionally, she batted .322 with 29 RBI, and she featured a fielding percentage of .996 between her time at pitcher and at first base.
 
The Gulf South Conference placed 17 players on the two teams including 11 of the 14 First Team selections, while the Sunshine State Conference had eight representatives and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference had three choices.
 
Those that earned First Team status will now advance to the All-America ballot.
 
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
