Federovitch Headlines GSC Season Awards as GSC Player of the Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference unveiled the 2018 women's lacrosse season awards on Wednesday afternoon, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville garnered a total of six awards headlined by Nicole Federovitch as GSC Player of the Year for the second season in a row.
 
Federovitch – who has been All-GSC in each of her three seasons – was also one of three attackers to garner All-GSC, and she was joined as an all-conference selection by Ava Boethig, Leslie Allen Brown, Alanna Carvalho, and Kinta Schott. Carvalho and Schott each garner their second All-GSC honor, while Boethig and Brown receive their first league award.
 
A Barnegat, New Jersey, native, Federovitch had another career year as she leads NCAA Division II in both total points (111) and points per game (6.94) while ranking 11th nationally in goals (65) and 10th in assists (46). The first 100-point scorer in program history, Federovitch enters the weekend ranked third amongst active players with 276 career points (199g-77a) and is the only junior amongst the top three active leaders in the nation.
 
Boethig made a strong impact on the team in her freshman season, as the newcomer led the defense with 39 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers in addition to rating second on the team with 49 draw controls. The freshman also made contributions on the offensive end with 13 points on eight goals and give assists.
 
Mountain Brook, Alabama, native Brown made a total of 15 starts and made 16 appearances in goal for the Chargers, compiling a 12-3 record between the pipes while leading the conference and ranking 12th nationally with a 9.13 goals against average. Brown additionally rates second in the conference with a career-high .405 save percentage on 90 saves.
 
Carvalho – a native of Nashville – has also been a major contributor to the NCAA-leading UAH offense, as the senior is second on the roster and 17th nationally with 63 goals in addition to 11 assists for a career-high 75 points this season. She additionally ranks third on the squad with 48 draw controls and tied for fourth with 34 ground balls.
 
Schott rounds out the Chargers honorees for the 2018 campaign, after posting a team-high 65 draw controls in addition to rating second in caused turnovers (15) and third in ground balls (36). The Agoura, California, native also benefitted the offense with 29 points on 26 goals and three assists.
 
UAH looks ahead to the start of the GSC invitational as the second seed with an opening-round matchup against third-seeded Lee on Friday at 6 p.m. CT on Young Harris' campus.
